This is his tenth book and he has also edited over 80 books on a wide range of subjects, including fiction, politics, history, travel, BBC Radio 4 and classical music. He previously pursued a varied career in government, the highlights of which included multilateral government negotiations in Paris and a number of forays into sub-Saharan Africa.
