SHIRIN RAI is Senior Lecturer in Politics and Women's Studies at the University of Warwick. She has written extensively on issues of gender and democratization and is the co-editor of Women in the Face of Change: Eastern Europe, Soviet Union and China (1992), and Women and the State: International Perspectives (1996). She co-edits the Manchester University series on Perspectives on Democratization.
