The Rt. Hon. Michael Havers was called to the Bar in 1948 and took silk in 1964. He became Lord Chancellor in June 1987, but was forced to retire after only four months, due to ill health. Edward Grayson was called to the Bar in 1948, and became the country's leading legal expert on matters relating to sport and the law. Peter Shankland is a naval historian with a special interest in criminology and historic trials.
