Sylvia Tan is a freelance food and travel writer for various publications including The Sunday Times, The Business Times, Her World, Women's Weekly, and Wine & Dine. Prior to her current status, she worked in turn for the Singapore Herald, the New Nation, The New Paper, and The Straits Times. Sylvia Tan's fortnightly column in The Sunday Times, Mad About Food, was greeted with rave reviews and won a newspaper Award for Excellence in 1995, just months after it was launched. In the citation, it was described as "the BEST column in Sunday Plus" that year and a "celebration of the pleasures of preparing and cooking food.
