Following an introductory history of kitsch, a tongue-in-cheek directory of icons including flying ducks, pink flamingos and shag-pile carpets brings to life the character of kitsch. The final chapter illustrates a selection of specially photographed kitsch interiors created by self-expressive collectors and inventive home-decorators, from Zandra Rhodes' pink and purple haven to the idiosyncrasies of trailer park living in the United States of America. The opulent eccentricity of the home of Pierre et Gilles in Paris is also featured.
