Evelyne de la Cheneliere was born in Quebec and studied theatre in Paris and Montreal. Des fraises en janvier (Strawberries in January), one of 15 plays so far, won the Quebec Academy of Theatre's award for Best original play of 2000. Rona Munro won the Evening Standard Most Promising Playwright Award for Bold Girls in 1991, the Peggy Ramsay Award for The Maiden Stone in 1995 and the John Whiting Award for Iron in 2003. She also adapted The House of Bernarda Alba for Shared Experience.
