Jabbour Douaihy was born in 1949 in Zgharta, Lebanon. He is a professor of French literature at the Lebanese University in Beirut and has published numerous novels and short story collections. June Rain was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arab Fiction. He lives in Lebanon. About the translator Paula Haydar has translated several novels by leading Lebanese novelists Sahar Khalifah and Elias Khoury. She won the Arkansas Arabic Translation Prize for her translation of Khoury's The Kingdom of Strangers. She was also the runner-up for the 2008 Saif Ghobash-Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation.
