This guide to the development of Formula One is divided into seven themed sections. The first section covers the history of the sport from the first Formula One race in 1950 and to the first races at the turn of the century up to the 1999 season. Each subsequent chapter analyzes the rise and fall of drivers, teams and circuits in this ever-changing sport; highlights the constant technical innovation and change; and takes a look at how the sport is run, from who organizes Formula One to how a pit stop works and to what the flags marshals wave at drivers actually mean.
