This is a portrayal of America as it is now and as it has changed over the last few years. Here is the America that the world has observed through the 1980s - the America of yuppies, Wall Street greed, right wing fundamentalism and Reaganite values. Here, at the same time, is the other America - the despairing liberals, the Sixties activists who have become stockbrokers and real estate speculators. Caught in the middle of this "Great Divide" are the people who have seen the changes but who hesitate to transform their inner lives.
