DR CHRIS COOK has combined an academic career with a variety of writing and editorial work. He first wrote for Pears Cyclopaedia in 1970, before becoming Assistant Editor and eventually Editor in 1976. Among his other writings are a 3-volume series of Longman Handbooks to modern British, European and World History.
