Heather Martin is a Second World War baby who was brought up on a farm. She qualified as a nurse in 1961, married and had two children. During a career break, whilst her children were growing up, she developed her own nursery school. She later returned to nursing and retired from a hospital manager's post in 1995. She is now a very active grandparent.
