Peter Archer is a graduate of University College, Cork and is research fellow at the Educational Research Centre, St Patrick's College, Drumcondra. Much of his work focuses on issues of inequality and disadvantage and he has a particular interest in the relationship between research and policymaking. He is cur-rently involved in projects to survey levels of disadvantage in primary schools and other evaluation and development activi-ties. Sara Cantillon is Co-ordinator of the Equality Studies Centre, University College, Dublin where she lectures on the Econom-ics of Social Policy and Comparative Economic Systems. As Visiting Professor to the World Bank in 1997 she developed poverty training modules and with the UN Economic Commis-sion for Africa lectured on income transfers and public expen-diture (Ethiopia, 1997 and South Africa, 1998). Her research ar-eas include non-monetary deprivation indicators, gender and poverty and research methodologies.
