Gerd Brantenberg, born in Oslo in 1941, trained and worked as a teacher until 1982. She has been active in the Feminist Movement, particularly the Refuge for Battered Wives and in the Norwegian Writers Union. She is widely published and her works have been translated into Danish, Swedish, German, Dutch and English. The Daughters of Egalia was originally published in norwegian as Egalias dotre, 1977.
