the illustrations are outstanding... Like Oliver Jeffers, Feeney manages to get across myriad expressions in the simple quirk of an eyebrow or tilt of a head. The illustrations reward the careful viewer ... A treat for the eyes, this is a picture book to savour and already one of my favourites of the year
-- Irish Independent
Tatyana Feeney's illustration style is as distinctive as it is evocative. Her minimalist hand-drawn characters fizz with personality and vigour against beautifully rendered backdrops. The book is lovingly produced using heavy paper that lends weight to the story Feeney is telling. The story is itself beautiful. It is simple and full of genuine emotion. Feeney captures the childlike perception of her rain-adoring protagonist beautifully. Her use of typography is innovative and engaging. The story is brought to life by Feeney's use of colour: the soft blues of the rain and the riot of colour that erupts ... this picture book is perfect for anyone who knows the pleasure of walking under an umbrella and hearing the music of the rain above their head. And for anyone who doesn't!

A joyful book which embraces rain in all its guises, welcoming and celebrating it as imaginative Eva thoroughly enjoys herself. I love all the synonyms for rain on the inside covers - do share these with children

full of lovely water-y illustrations with a brilliant scribbling style that sometimes looks like rain has just fallen on the pages ... Eva and the Perfect Rain will have children of all ages excited to go out in their wellies and explore the wet weather

a cheerful tale of a lively little girl with her bright umbrella and irrepressible enthusiasm. Even our Irish rain seems attractive mixed in with the strong primary colours on mostly white backgrounds
-- Irish Examiner
With a real feel for a young child's personality and their ability to find excitement and fun anywhere, this book is a complete delight. The simple text tells a story any child can relate to ... waiting and wanting. It shows Eva, her disappointments and her small triumphs with understanding. But, of course, it is the illustrations that really stand out and bring the entire story to life. It's vibrant, rich palette sees the story change from page to page, expressing the changing atmosphere and Eva's mood. They take the reader along on her journey, making the small things seem as important as they really are through the carefully crafted, yet childlike and free colours and line work. This book is an absolute joy! Wondrous and fun, you're going to love it!
