The Lights that Dance in the Night by Yuval Zommer
In this wonderfully festive picture book, Yuval Zommer imagines the Northern Lights' fleeting journey from space to Earth and how they weave a special magic for the animals and people living in the frozen lands below. From tiny specs of dust to gleaming rays in the dark, the Northern Lights travel across the Arctic, uniting every creature in a celebration that reverberates through land and sea.
"The poetic rhyming text of The Lights That Dance in the Night pairs beautifully with the dance of the Aurora Borealis, and deftly mixes the science behind how the lights are formed with cultural significance and fableIn one spread, indigenous Arctic peoples enjoy the lights and we hear how they feature in their storytelling tradition; and in another, polar bears, and Arctic hares frolic together under the night sky. Author-illustrator Yuval Zommer's unique artistic style brings the wintery landscapes to life in this wonderfully atmospheric book." * Phoebe Demeger, Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) Librarian *
