Chris Arthur was born in Belfast in 1955 and lived for many years in Lisburn, County Antrim. He has written three books of essays: Irish Nocturnes, Irish Willow and Irish Haiku. He has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the Theodore Christian Hoepfner Award, the Akegarasu Haya International Essay Prize and the Gandhi Foundation's Rodney Aitchtey Memorial Prize. A member of Irish PEN and the International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures, he lived in Scotland for over a decade, holding university fellowships at St Andrews and Edinburgh. He currently lectures at the University of Wales, Lampeter.
