David Van Biema has written more than 20 cover stories on religion since first joining TIME in 1993, including TIME's commemorative issue on Pope John Paul II and TIME's issue on the Pope's 2008 visit to the United States. He was named TIME senior writer in 1995 and is currently a contributor to the magazine.Richard Lacayo is art critic and editor-at-large of TIME.
