Ellen Gilford has written and edited illustrated non-fiction books on a variety of topics including social history, archaeology and cultural traditions. Her work on genealogy came through the pioneering work of her cousin, who traced the family's Eastern European origins at a time when few resources were available. Her involvement in his work and subsequent experiences in the field of genealogical research form the basis of this book.
