Books by John Strawson

Major-General John Strawson served in the 4th Hussars - Winston Churchill's regiment - during the Second World War in the middle East and Italy, and afterwards in Germany and Malaya. Following amalgamation of the 4th and 8th Hussars as the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars, he commanded the regiment in Malaysia and Germany. He played polo for the regimental team pointing out that as he was in command, there was no argument about his selection. He was Colonel of the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars from 1975 to 1985, during the last three years Chairman of the Cavalry Colonels, and also Chairman of the Cavalry and Guards Club from 1984 to 1987. He was Master of the Staff College Drag 1959 to 1961. He is married to Baroness Wilfried von Schellersheim and they have two daughters. He has written a number of military books, including The Italian Campaign, Gentlemen in Khaki, The Duke and The Emperor, and Churchill and Hitler.
