Nigel Aston is Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Luton. His publications include The End of an Elite: The French Bishops and the Coming of the Revolution (Oxford University Press, 1992); Religious Change in Europe, 1650-1914 (Oxford University Press) and Religion and Revolution in France 1780-1804 (Macmillan, 1999). Matthew Cragoe is Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Hertfordshire and the author of An Anglican Aristocracy: The Moral Economy of the Landed Estate in Carmarthenshire, 1832-95 (Oxford University Press, 1996) and Culture, Politics and the Rise of Nationalism in Wales 1832-1895 (Oxford University Press, 1999).
