Film: Elizabethtown Summary

Film: Elizabethtown by Cameron Crowe

This is the new romantic comedy from Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky) transports us to Elizabethtown, Kentucky - a heck of a place to find yourself ...After nearly causing the shoe company he works for to lose $972,000,000, designer Drew Baylor (Orlando Bloom) is fired for his mistake - and promptly dumped by his girlfriend, Ellen. Hours later, suicidally despondent, Drew learns of his father Mitch's sudden death - and embarks on a journey that will give him a new purpose in life. Drew returns to his family's small Kentucky hometown of Elizabethtown, where he is required to ensure that his father's dying wishes are fulfilled. En route he meets a vivacious flight attendant, Claire Colburn (Kirsten Dunst), who will prove to him that amazing things happen in life when you least expect them. The screenplay of Elizabethtown offers all of Cameron Crowe's customary strengths as a writer: characters we can recognise and fall in love with, memorably thoughtful and witty lines, and, throughout, Crowe's distinctive gift for emotionally honest and touching detail. This volume also contains a brand new introductory essay by Cameron Crowe, along with special extracts from the journal that he kept during the film's production.
