The Ring of Bright Water Trilogy Summary

The Ring of Bright Water Trilogy by Gavin Maxwell

Fifty years ago Gavin Maxwell went to the west coast of Scotland, to live in an abandoned house on a shingle beach at the bottom of a steep drop with a miniature bay and islands, magical waterfall and encircling stream of vivid water. He called it Camusfearna, and forty years ago wrote his immortal classic about the place, Ring of Bright Water. His record of life with the wild creatures of that landscape, especially the domesticated otters, continued in The Rocks Remain and Raven Seek Thy Brother. This trilogy offers a single narrative of Maxwell's story.

About Gavin Maxwell

In 1945 Gavin Maxwell bought the small Hebridean island of Soay and tried to establish a shark fishery. This resulted in his first book, Harpoon At A Venture. Other books, including the famed Ring Of Bright Water, followed. Gavin died in 1969. Austin Chinn studied classics at Harvard and became editor of 'The Phoenix', a literary magazine. He now lives and writes in rural south-west Vermont.
