GEORGE BLUM is Professor of History and Chair of the Department at the University of the Pacific. Among his recent publications are articles and chapters in Research Guide to European Historical Biography (1992-1993), Statesmen Who Changed the World (Greenwood, 1993), Events That Changed the World in the Twentieth Century (Greenwood, 1995), and Encyclopedia of World War II in Europe (1998).
