The Moving Image Summary

The Moving Image: International History of Film, Television and Video by John Wyver

This book is being published to mark the opening of the new Museum of the Moving Image, to be opened on the South Bank in October 1987. The project of a museum of film has been organized by the British Film Institute and an extensive public appeal, with Prince Charles as its patron, succeeded in raising the necessary funds. This book will act as the guide or catalogue of the Museum and provides a comprehensive account of the history of the moving image from Daguerre to Dallas. Separate chapters are devoted to animation, the star system, the studios, TV drama, public broadcasting, the impact of video, film criticism and the future of cinema. The book will be well illustrated and is intended to provide a full account of the progress of film history.
