Summary
Alessandro Giuliani is the son of a prosperous Roman lawyer whose idyllic youth is halted by World War I, when he's imprisoned for desertion and the army nurse he loves is killed. How he matures and relates his experiences of life are the basis of this novel, by the author of "Winter's Tale".
