Summary

God in our Midst follows the pattern of the Christian year, with sections on 'Advent, Christmas and Epiphany', 'Jesus' Ministry' and 'Holy Week and Easter'. But the book also contains two sections devoted to pieces that either draw their immediate inspiration from the Old Testament, or have been written for special occasions.

God In Our Midst Summary

God In Our Midst: Gospel Stories And Reflections by Revd Canon Trevor Dennis

In relishing and taking full advantage of the room the biblical text leaves for the imagination, Trevor Dennis has produced a beautifully crafted collection of poetry and prose that releases the power of the gospel story afresh. Not only does he pay careful heed to the women of the Gospels, he also seeks to enter into the minds of those 'on the other side' in material written from the perspective of Pilate, 'the Jews' and someone who is fighting against the uncomfortable truths of Good Friday.

About Revd Canon Trevor Dennis

Trevor J. Dennis joined the staff of Chester Cathedral in 1994, where he was Vice Dean and Canon Chancellor until his retirement in 2010. For nearly 12 years before that he was tutor in Old Testament Studies at Salisbury and Wells Theological College. During his time at Salisbury he wrote two books on Old Testament narratives, Lo and Behold! (1991), and Sarah Laughed (1994), and these were later followed by two volumes exploring Old Testament stories of encounter with God, Looking God in the Eye (1998), and Face to Face with God (1999).
