Come rifle through the history and science of hair dye, both synthetic and herbal, from its origins in the ancient world to the health scandals of the 20th century. An honest and intriguing look at what hair dye is, what it does, and the power it holds over us. Includes the story of henna hair colour within Lush, with practical tips for henna application from trichologist Mark Constantine. Reworked and updated from Lush co-founder Mark Constantine's original Herbal Hair Colouring, first published in 1978.

About

Milly joined Lush as a sales assistant in 2011 while studying for a Master's Degree in English Literature at Cardiff University. She worked as Trainee Manager in Lush Bath Spa before joining the brand team in 2014 as a writer, researcher and editor. Previous projects include working on the Lush Times, The Self-Preserving Handbook and creating content for events such as the Lush Creative Showcase and Lush Summit. A mum of two, past-times include drinking too much coffee, dragging her family outdoors for fresh air and a long soak in the bath with a good book when the kids are in bed. Mark co-founded Lush with five friends and creative confidants in 1995 after the collapse of previous mail order business Cosmetics To Go. Mark has been a key driving force behind the business for 25 years and also works as part of the product development team creating hair, skincare and body creams as well as decadent Lush spa treatments. Challenging the business to create fresh, innovative and anarchic cosmetic products, some of Mark's beliefs have become the backbone of the company. Lush's stringent and pioneering 'against animal testing policy' is just one example of how his strong beliefs have transformed the cosmetics industry.
