Ian Burton is a writer and dramaturg, born in Yorkshire and now living in Bath. For the last twenty five years he has worked in the opera theatre, as well as writing plays for BBC Radio Three. His poems have appeared in Stand, Ariel, Poetry Review, The Body Politic and several Arts Council Anthologies. His last collection of poems, Dorset Street, was published in 2006. His libretto for Giorgio Battistelli's opera Richard III, was premiered in 2005, published by Ricordi, Milan, and was voted the best new opera of the decade 2000-2010, by Opera News, New York. He has also written libretti for Torsten Rasch's The Duchess of Malfi, (E.N.O. 2009), for Michael Torke's Poppea, (Chatelet, Paris,May 2012) and for Philippe Fenelon's JJR Citoyen de Geneve, (Grand Theatre de Geneve, September 2012).
