Books by John Gibson
From Newcastle's West End, Gibbo started his newspaper career at Northumberland's Hexham Courant before heading off and working at the old Sun in London in the 1960s. After covering the Ashington-born Charlton brothers and England's victory in the 1966 World Cup he set about dedicating his efforts to blanket coverage of his beloved Newcastle United for the next four decades for the Chronicle. John has also been crowned National Sports Journalist of the Year five times and scooped numerous other national industry awards. His writing is credited as instrumental in helping the Magpie Group take control of St James' Park at the start of the 90s, ushering in Kevin Keegan. Chronicle Editor Paul Robertson, said: "John Gibson is a legend and at 70 continues to write with authority on all things Newcastle United. He continues to pick up awards and is respected in both the world of sport and journalism.
