Lionel March, former Rector at the Royal College of Art, London, is currently Professor of Design and Computation at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a member of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, and teaches the fundamentals of architectonics. He is closely associated with advances in shape grammars and computation at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His previous books include The Geometry of Environment with Philip Steadman, and edited volumes: The Architecture of Form, Urban Space and Structures with Leslie Martin, and most recently R M Schindler: Composition and Construction with Judith Sheine. Widely regarded as 'the founder of the morphological field in architectural research', March is editor of the journal Planning and Design.
