Miguel Vale de Almeida is lecturer of Anthropology at ISCTE, Lisbon. He is also a political and social activist in Portugal, and a fiction writer. He has published numerous books in Portuguese and one in English, The Hegemonic Male. Masculinity in a Portuguese Town (Berghahn Books, 1996).
