NICHOLAS KINGSLEY is the County and Diocesan Archivist for Gloucestershire. He read geography at Oxford, where he began his research into country houses in Gloucestershire while working as a junior archivist at Gloucestershire Record Office. He then became the City Archivist of Birmingham before returning to Gloucestershire as County Archivist. Heis Vice-Chairman of the National Council on Archives and his other published work includes articles for Country Life and local history journals as well as professional archive reports. He is the general editor of the national series English Country Houses.
