Paul Archer studied architecture at Liverpool University, graduating in1991. In 1993 he moved to Hong Kong and worked for Tonkin Design on many residential, office and restaurant projects, before returning to the UK in 1996 to become a founding director of Tonkin Architects. He has taught at Liverpool University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Greenwich University, North London University and Cardiff University. He set up Paul Archer Design in 1999, focusing on high-quality residential work. He was included in the Architects' Journal '40 under 40' list in 2005. In 2012 he was shortlisted for a RIBA award and in 2007 he won the Architects' Journal 'Small Project of the Year Award' for the Collins House (pp. 52-57). His projects have been featured on the television programme Grand Designs, in books such as HousePlus (Thames & Hudson, 2005), and in The Guardian Weekend, The Architects' Journal, Grand Designs and other popular and professional journals. Phyllis Richardson is the author of several books on contemporary architecture and design, including the XS series (XS, XS Green, XS Extreme), HousePlus, New Sacred Architecture and Nano House.
