PROFESSOR PAUL ROWNTREE CLIFFORD - President of the Selly Oak Colleges in Birmingham from 1965 to the late 1970s, is the son of the founders of the West Ham Central Mission and himself became a Baptist minister after Oxford in the 1930s. He went on to be Professor of Religion at McMaster University in Canada. At Selly Oak he was very involved in ecumenical conferences which laid the foundation for Churches Together. In retirement he took on the chairmanship of the Reform Club in the late 1980s.
