Troon Harrison was born in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in 1958 and grew up in Cornwall, England. The memory of the huge waves crashing onto the seafront at Penzance reappears in The Storm Lion as Troon recalls her childhood fear in the face of nature's power. Troon has published 15 books include young adult novels, picture books and junior chapter books. Published internationally in several languages, they have won or received nominations for a variety of awards, including the Red Maple, Red Cedar, Blue Spruce, Storytelling World, Independent Book Publishers, Torgi, Children's Book of the Year, and Geoffrey Bilson Historical Fiction. Troon combines writing with teaching. She has a Bachelor of Education degree as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. For seven years, she has been an Instructor with the Institute Of Children's Literature in Connecticut, USA. She teaches adult correspondence courses in writing for children and facilitates writing workshops in schools and at Trent University in Ontario, where she was Writer-in-Residence in 2000. Troon lives in the country north of Toronto, Ontario.
