VERONIQUE TADJO was born in Paris in 1955 and grew up in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. She has a BA in English from Abidjan University and a doctorate degree in African University. Tadjo's work includes two collections of poems, Laterite (Hatier, 1984), which won a literary award, and a mi-chemin (L'Harmattan, 2000); three novels, Le Royaume Aveugle (L'Harmattan, 1992), A Vol d'Oiseau (Nathan, 1991 and L'Harmattan, 1992) and Champs de Bataille et d'Amour (Presence Africaine/Nouvelles Editions Ivoiriennes, 1999). She has written and illustrated several children's books and has edited a short anthology of African poetry, Talking Drums (A & C Black, 2000).She has facilitated workshops on writing and illustrating children's books in several countries. Her latest book, L'ombre d'lmana (Actes Sud, 2000), is on Rwanda and the genocide. WANGUI WA GORO is a social critic, interpreter and writer as well as a translator, with a strong interest in the development of African languages. She writes and recites poetry. In 1989 she published her work on non-fiction on Mekatilili (Vita Books), and she has translated Ngugi's novels, and children's books into English.
