On a Japanese beach, teenage sisters Hanako and Reiko are caught up in a storm. Reiko survives while Hanako is lost to the sea. Their mother, however, can't shake the feeling her missing daughter is still alive, and soon family tragedy takes on a global political dimension.

About Francis Turnly

Francis Turnly is a playwright, radio dramatist and screenwriter. His stage plays have been produced at numerous theatres including the Birmingham Rep (A Samurai in Soho), Watford Palace and Finborough Theatre (Harajuku Girls). His work has been included on schemes such as the National Theatre's Directors Week, Moonstone, and the 50 (collaboration between BBC Drama and Royal Court). He has written several afternoon plays including Hinterland for BBC Radio 4. Francis was a winner of a Channel 4 playwright bursary in 2015 and as a result was writer in resident at the Tricycle Theatre in 2016, culminating in him winning the Catherine Johnson Award. His play, The Great Wave, will be co-produced by the National Theatre and the Tricycle in 2018. He is developing several ideas for television, including a series treatment with World Productions
