True Colors in My Ordinary World Summary

True Colors in My Ordinary World by Nat Damon

Claire doesn't care about how she looks at school, what she said at the Valentine's Day dance, or whether the radio is tuned to Madonna or Cyndi Lauper. But she always knows exactly what time it is, what she had for lunch last Wednesday, and the lyrics to every 80s pop song ever recorded. 'True Colors in My Ordinary World' is the everyday story of a girl whose cognitive disability gives her an extraordinary sense of what some might call mindfulness. Claire's family loves her deeply, and she has lots of friends, but it's her open heart and her deep capacity for insight that make her remarkable. Wisdom can often be found in unexpected places. Based on a true story of American family life, 'True Colors in My Ordinary World' is a warm testament to the power and importance of human belonging taking place at the dawn of the internet age.

True Colors in My Ordinary World Reviews

"Claire is able to see through the superficial to what is going on inside someone else, or what really matters in a situation, and this makes her a poignant and powerful narrator. Through this book I was able to reflect on the gifts each person has an how important the small details of family life are." - Saffia Farr, Juno magazine
