International Politics Summary

International Politics: How History Modifies Theory by Owen IV

Presenting the development of international relations and its theories in a historical narrative spanning 500 years, International Politics: How History Modifies Theory offers a fresh perspective on twenty-first-century world politics. Rather than simply listing IR theories, this text demonstrates that certain theories explain the behavior of world politics better than others based on historical context. Offering a broader and deeper historical perspective than any other text on the market, it demonstrates how history can explain and impact theory development in the field of international relations.

International Politics Reviews

I am highly enthusiastic about International Politics: How History Modifies Theory. I love the deeper historical perspective. The blend of history and theory is both sophisticated yet accessible. --Ewan Harrison, Rutgers University, New BrunswickThe authors are preeminent scholars who clearly command expertise in this area. The scholarship is excellent. --Steve Chan, University of Colorado, BoulderThis is an interesting project by two very well known and accomplished scholars. We are bereft of works that show the interplay of deep history with theory, and this book fills that void nicely. --Steve Yetiv, Old Dominion University
