Handbook of Research Methods in Experimental Psychology Reviews

This book harks back to a time when 'Handbooks' were an essential ingredient for advanced undergraduate and graduate education in experimental psychology. The book does a marvelous job of surveying the wide discipline that is now experimental psychology with coverage in each chapter giving at least a nod to the historical foundations in that area. Davis' 'Handbook' would be a useful addition to an advanced undergraduate or graduate level course in general experimental psychology or research methods. Chapters that present research methods in the historical perspective are very good, and as several of the authors point out, clearly show that research methods are not static, but rather have and continue to evolve. Stephen F. Davis is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Emporia State University. He is the author of numerous books, including Psychology (with Joseph J. Palladino, fourth edition 2004) and The Psychologist as Detective: An Introduction to Conducting Research in Psychology (with Randolph A. Smith, third edition 2004).
