This series of guides provides comprehensive checklists, in this case for potential recent 981 buyers, but the information will also be helpful to owners. Stretcher is an accomplished Porsche author and for those new to the marque, he sets out the practicalities of owning a Boxster or Cayman; for those familiar with the car, the cooks are a very useful reminder of what to look for in a second hand purchase to simply maintaining the car. The author makes his points clearly, covers the ground thoroughly and supports his text with copious colour photography. - Kieron Fennelly. The booklet guides the future buyer through the large number of variants and motorisations. It also informs you of the possible costs and problems that many occur. In short, a must-have for anyone dreaming of a second-generation second-hand Boxster or Cayman.- Oldtimer Magazine/ Dreamcar Magazine. The latest Veloce Essential Buyers Guide covers the 2012-16 Porsche Boxster and Cayman. The handy 64-page paperback provides a wealth of expert advice, as well as tech data and comparative values between the various versions of the 981 series.- Classic & Sports Car. Dozens of these very useful books have now been published by Veloce, covering cars as different as Ford Model T and Alfasud, as well as many motorcycles. Each one is a small-format softcover with 64 pages. This new addition is rather different, because it covers such a new model, so it has less emphasis on the wear and tear to look out for after years of use (or misuse!). Nonetheless, the Porsche 981 book follows the regular structure, including is it the right car for you, and the vital statistics of the model range. They key aspects for potential buyers, though, are the 15 Minute Evaluation: Stay or Walk Away, and the much more detailed Serious Evaluation which sets out a range of scores to help you reach an objective assessment of the car you might be considering. This goes into a fair amount of detail, from steering system to the underside panels, and radiators and coolant. Finding contaminated coolant is given as one reason to stop and walk away! I was also intersted in the two pages headed Problems due to Lack of Use - an object lesson for anyone tempted to store such a car in the hope that it will increase in value! There is enough information in here, as in the other books in the series, to prevent someone from making an expensive mistake. - New Zealand Classic Car.
