Anthony Ridgway has cerebral palsy and writes using a computer programme developed by Dolphin Computer Access. He studied Creative Writing at his local college and the inspiration for 'Wizzy, the Animal Whisperer' came through Tina Fanshawe and her horse, Nellie. Anthony's adventure story has a unique take on life - just as he has always been reliant on his wheelchair, the children are reliant on Wizzy's skills to solve the problems they come across. But it's not all plain sailing, especially when Wizzy can't understand the idiosyncrasies of human speech.With Suzan's wonderful watercolours the story comes to glorious life, touched with humour and character, adding another dimension to be enjoyed by the reader. Über Anthony Ridgway

My name is Anthony Ridgway. I have cerebral palsy. I first had the idea for Wizzy because children stop me when I am out in the park in my electric wheelchair and ask their parents, "What is the matter with that man?" Sometimes I explain, "My legs don't work."The name Wizzy came about from a friend, Leo, who used to call my chair 'Wizzy Wheelchair'. Wizzy is a talking wheelchair with attitude! Dan and Wizzy are like two friends. Dan's father designed the chair so that Dan is able to be independent, using Wizzy's amazing abilities.My mum and dad, Grethe and Mike, have helped me hugely over the years. Dad used to write things down for me. Sadly, he has now died. I now write using a computer programme developed by Dolphin Computer Access, and my mum helps me edit, especially useful when the programme uses automatic spell check with sometimes amusing results.I have been encouraged by my creative writing teacher, Barbara Large, and the inspiration for this story came through Tina Fanshawe and her horse, Nellie.Recently, I have had the wonderful experience of working with Suzan Houching, who has drawn and painted the illustrations for Wizzy the Animal Whisperer.
