The Last Days of Steam in Gloucestershire Ben Ashworth
This is a photographic record of the railways of Gloucestershire during a revolutionary period between 1959 and 1966. In 1959 steam power was still pre-eminent, branch lines were still operating and stations and halts were legion. By 1966 diesel power had usurped the steam locomotive, most branch lines were closed and only a small number of stations remained in use. Over 200 superbly atmospheric photographs capture this era of major change to provide a permanent record of interest to the railway buff, social historian, and indeed anyone who loves steam trains.
