William Jessop, Engineer C. Hadfield
Charles Hadfield and Professor Skempton collaborated on this biography of Britain's leading civil engineer from 1785 to 1805, and foremost engineer of the canal-building age. His work includes major docks (West India, Bristol Floating Harbour), canals (Ellesmere, Grand Junction, Rochdale, Caledonian, Grand Canal of Ireland), the Trent Navigation, land drainage and two early railways - the Surrey Iron and the Kilmarnock and Troon.
