The recent I CAN report suggests that over 50% of children in England are starting school with some form of speech and language disability. The EYFS states that 'the development and use of communication and language is at the heart of young children's learning.' The importance of encouraging children to talk and how to create space to facilitate this process is the focus of this book. It includes a summary of some of the key environmental influences collated from research studies into extended schools and lots of examples of what this looks like in practice.
