Javier Mariscal: Designing the New Spain Emma Dent Coad
Trained as a painter, the Spanish designer Javier Mariscal worked as a strip cartoonist before moving on to interior design. A stool that he designed for a Valencia bar appeared in one of the early Memphis collections. Since then he has worked on a series of Barcelona clubs and restaurants, on graphics, product designs, textiles, clothes and furniture. Mariscal is responsible for the mascot for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. This is his biography written by an Anglo-Spanish design journalist.
