Travels in the Western Isles from 1782 to 1790 John Lane Buchanan
In 1793, the Reverend Buchanan published a searchingly full account of his time spent in the Western Isles between 1782 and 1790. As Missionary Minister, he was well placed to record all aspects of life in the island, and his work has left subsequent generations insight into island life in the 18th century: the social conditions, religious beliefs and superstitions, agriculture and trade systems of the inhabitants. Formerly only available from the original limited print run of 1793, this work should appeal to those interested in the Western Hebrides.
