Insulin pump therapy, or continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), has evolved from a research procedure in the 1970s to a routine form of treatment for selected people with type 1 diabetes. This book is the first to combine a detailed discussion of the evidence-base for all aspects of CSII in adults and children with a practical guide to treating people with diabetes using insulin pump therapy. It also includes a discussion on the clinical applications of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), a technology which is increasingly being used with CSII, and best injection therapy for optimizing diabetes control. The book concludes with a look into the future with a discussion on likely developments in pump therapy and CGM in the coming years, including research into an artificial pancreas and completely non-invasive glucose sensing.
