A Vision of Scotland: Nation Observed by John Slezer, 1671-1717 Keith Cavers
This highly illustrated volume is based on the Scottish engravings and drawings of John Slezer. The famous views of towns, castles, cathedrals and abbeys are presented here in their original form, together with some comparative shots, later reworkings and other, little-known drawings. The result is a blend of seventeenth-century Scottish portraits and later depictions of the kingdom. The book gives a rounded picture of Slezer's career and working methods plus the full story of his celebrated "Theatrum Scotiae" (1693).
