The Wind in the Willows Zusammenfassung

The Wind in the Willows Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahames classic tale was first published in 1908, and children and adults alike fell in love with the timid Mole, the friendly Water Rat, the erudite Badger, the mischievous Toad, and a host of other unforgettable creatures. The quiet life they lead on the banks of the River Thames is interspersed with adventures, normally instigated by Toad, who has a propensity for trouble, and whose sudden and all-consuming passion for motor cars eventually results in his being kept a helpless prisoner in the remotest dungeon of the best-guarded keep of the stoutest castle in all the length and breadth of Merry England. His escape dressed as a washerwoman and his journey home to Toad Hall are among the most familiar and best-loved escapades in childrens literature.

Over the years, the animals adventures have been brought to life by many artists, including E. H. Shepard, who illustrated the original edition, and Arthur Rackham. This magnificent new edition brings the story to life with more than 70 new illustrations by award-winning artist Robert Ingpen, so fans of all ages can relive or enjoy for the first time this heart-warming tale.

Über Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahame was born in Edinburgh in 1859, but, following the death of his mother when he was only five years old, was brought up by his grandmother in Berkshire. Grahame began writing as a means of escaping the drudgery of his job at the bank, and he soon began to have pieces published in journals. The Wind in the Willows began as a bedtime story for Grahames son Alistair, nicknamed Mouse, and was further embellished by Grahame in letters to his son. The book was published in 1908 and eventually became a huge bestseller.

Robert Ingpen was born in 1936 in Geelong, Australia, and still lives and works nearby in Barwon Heads. He studied illustration art and book design at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1986 he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for his contribution to childrens literature and he has been honoured with Membership of the Order of Australia. A world-renowned artist and author, Ingpen has designed, illustrated and written more than one hundred books, including his highly acclaimed series of illustrated Childrens Classics, which have now been published in many editions around the world.
